THC limits. No more than 4 mg of total THC per serving and 10 mg per container, counting THCA.

Registered sellers. Manufacturers and retailers, including online retailers and out-of-state manufacturers, must register with Iowa HHS. Online sellers must show their registration on their website before checkout.

Banned products. Delta-8, delta-10, HHC, THC-O and other synthetic cannabinoids, plus smokable hemp.

Warning labels. Labels must warn that the product could cause a failed drug test and must say to keep it away from children.
What Changed: Iowa's Hemp Law Timeline
2019: The Iowa Hemp Act. SF 599 legalized growing hemp and selling consumable hemp products, including CBD, in Iowa.
May 2024: HF 2605 is signed. Governor Kim Reynolds signed HF 2605, which set Iowa's THC limits for hemp products and raised the buying age to 21.
July 1, 2024: The new rules take effect. Synthetic cannabinoids like delta-8 came off Iowa shelves, ID checks became mandatory, and Iowa HHS began enforcing registration, testing and labeling rules.
December 11, 2026: Federal changes are coming. Congress has passed a new federal definition of hemp that limits finished products to 0.4 mg of total THC per container. It was set to take effect on November 12, 2026, and has since been pushed back to December 11, 2026. GoGreen Hemp's broad-spectrum products are made to contain 0.0% THC.
