What Changed: Rhode Island's Hemp Law Timeline
May 2022: Cannabis Act. Rhode Island legalized adult-use cannabis and created the Cannabis Control Commission.
August 2024: Hemp THC limits. Hemp consumables with low levels of delta-9 THC became legal, capped at 1 mg of total THC per serving and 5 mg per package, for adults 21 and over.
December 2025: The Cannabis Control Commission takes over hemp. Hemp licensing and rules moved from the Department of Business Regulation to the Commission. A 2026 bill to license hemp THC drinks, S 3215, didn't pass.
December 11, 2026: Federal changes are coming. Congress has passed a new federal definition of hemp that limits finished products to 0.4 mg of total THC per container. It was set to take effect on November 12, 2026, and has since been pushed back to December 11, 2026. GoGreen Hemp's broad-spectrum products are made to contain 0.0% THC.
