What Changed: New Jersey's Hemp Law Timeline
August 9, 2019: The New Jersey Hemp Farming Act. Governor Phil Murphy signed the law that created New Jersey's hemp program under the Department of Agriculture.
January 12, 2026: S4509 becomes law. Governor Murphy signed S4509, which took effect the next day:

Online sales: selling hemp-derived products or intoxicating hemp beverages online is banned.

21 and over: products with any detectable THC can't be sold to anyone under 21.

Vending machines and synthetics: hemp beverage vending machines and chemically synthesized cannabinoids are banned.
April 13, 2026: New hemp definition. Products with more than 0.3% total THC, or more than 0.4 mg of total THC per container, are now treated as cannabis and can be sold only by licensed cannabis businesses. Hemp beverages can stay in liquor stores until November 13, 2026.
December 11, 2026: Federal changes are coming. Congress has passed a new federal definition of hemp that limits finished products to 0.4 mg of total THC per container. It was set to take effect on November 12, 2026, and has since been pushed back to December 11, 2026. GoGreen Hemp's broad-spectrum products are made to contain 0.0% THC.
